Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Perrysburg public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Leaf pickup schedule
Leaf collection began October 19 and crews are working from the east side of town to the west, with multiple passes planned and a final sweep starting November 20. Residents should keep an eye on timing for their street.
E-bike and golf cart regulation
E-bikes have caused problems in parks this summer. The city has started an e-bike registration program, and a few bad actors have prompted complaints — including about overly bright new pickleball court lights at night.
Invisible Fence Company Grant
The committee was scheduled to discuss a grant from the Invisible Fence Company. The purpose and value of the grant were not detailed in the published agenda.
Animal Control Officer
The Safety Committee will revisit the animal control officer position eliminated years ago at its October 20 meeting — a frequent community request.
Pet Oxygen Mask Kit Donation
The fire division got eight free pet oxygen mask kits from the Invisible Fence Company's Project Breathe program — enough for every truck that carries oxygen. Pets are frequent fire victims, and now crews can give them oxygen on scene.
Fire Station 38 Renovation
The fire station kitchen/day-room renovation is about 40-45% done, with cabinets and flooring going in now. The goal is completion by end of November — ahead of the contractor's end-of-year target.
2027 Fire Department Budget and Staffing
The fire budget is up 6.2% and focuses on replacing aging breathing equipment, ballistic vests and thermal cameras. The chief says the division is not properly staffed and requested three more firefighters — but those aren't in the 2027 numbers.
CALEA police accreditation
A $3,978 one-year contract extension keeps the police department on track toward CALEA accreditation — the gold standard in law enforcement accreditation.
New four-way stop at Walnut and West Second
The four-way stop takes effect Monday, October 19, and the chair reports positive feedback from residents.
Road salt supply for winter 2026-27
Locking in 2,500 tons of salt at $93.26/ton keeps winter streets cleared at a price under budget.
Everbridge emergency notification system
The city joined Wood County's Everbridge mass notification system as an emergency measure so officials can send alerts right away — Perrysburg currently has no system since the county dropped Code Red.
Pedestrian safety at East South Boundary & Locust crossing
Two residents told council they've been nearly hit or actually hit by drivers ignoring the crossing guard at this school crossing. One said she was nearly struck in August despite the guard's stop sign being displayed. They want immediate short-term protection and a permanent fix, noting complaints date to October 2025.
City facility wayfinding and parking signs
New signs will help residents find public buildings and parking — a request that came from Municipal Court, which wants court visitors to locate parking more easily. The city plans to update all its signs at once, coordinated with the facilities project.
Closing Front Street during fireworks
Councilman McCarthy asked staff to study closing Front Street to cars on fireworks night, since crowds now line both sides of the street and speeding drivers create a danger. Staff will add it to a post-event review.
Police Body Armor Federal Reimbursement
The city got $3,000 from a federal-local initiative that covers up to 50% of the cost of body armor vests for police officers.
Police Division water-damage repair
A burst water pipe damaged the police station, and the city got two bids for the fix. The cheapest qualifying bid was $57,778.59, and insurance should cover all of it.
Playground security fence at West Side Montessori
The school gets a 188-foot, six-foot privacy fence around its playground for child safety and as a sound barrier for neighbors.
Mosquito Control Plan
A resident asked the city to explore healthier, natural alternatives to chemical mosquito spraying. Staff will set up a meeting to discuss a solution.
EMS Heart Monitor/Defibrillator Replacement
Current monitors are so old the manufacturer no longer makes parts. Replacements will come from Stryker using money already set aside in the 2026 Capital Budget.
Print & Protect Child ID Grant
A grant will fund equipment to make ID cards for kids, including Safety Town participants with parental consent. The committee wants clarity on how children's data is stored before moving forward.
Court recidivism-reduction programs
Judge Joel Kuhlman described Wood County Common Pleas programs — trade certificates, GED classes and free transportation for probationers — aimed at lowering repeat offenses.
EMS Quality Assurance Consulting
The Fire Division may hire a consultant to improve EMS billing and the standard of care, on the recommendation of the Medical Director and neighboring cities.
"Store It Safe" Firearm and Medication Safety
The Police Division may buy lock-boxes for residents as part of a statewide program to keep kids safe from guns and accidental medication ingestion.
Street Parking During Snow Emergencies
The City wants drivers off the streets during snowstorms so plows can clear parking lanes. A social media push worked, and formal Charter legislation is coming in March. Residents who park on the street should watch for the new rules.
Municipal Court prisoner transport van
The court's 2012 transport van has been breaking down repeatedly, so the city plans to spend about $75,000 on a replacement. The purchase goes to City Council next.
